Exposure Visit Of Senior Officers Of The
Punjab Government To Victoria University,
Wellington, New Zealand
PRMP, Planning
& Development Department, Government of the
Punjab has organized a study-cum-exposure
visit to Victoria University, Wellington,
New Zealand for officers from Government of
the Punjab from 10th to 14th December, 2007
in collaboration with Victoria University,
Wellington, New Zealand. 12 senior officers,
mostly Provincial Secretaries to Government
of the Punjab, are undertaking this visit.
The visit inter alia, focuses on learning
lessons from the Modern Public Sector
Reforms (New Public Management) which
originated in 1986 in New Zealand. New
Zealand opted for a working model of
strategic management, notable for its
attempt to clarify public accountability
through the specification of outputs,
contractual agreements and desegregation of
government departments into smaller, more
sharply focused agencies. New Zealand’s
experience provides many countries with an
opportunity to learn and adopt best
practices in the area of Strategic
Management as well as other public sector
management reforms.
Victoria University, Wellington has agreed
to conduct a customized program relevant
with the reform and development priorities
of the Punjab Government where New Zealand
has already taken the lead. This exposure is
meant for senior officials dealing with
reform and change in the public sector in
Government of the Punjab.
